Monday Moments - 33 things about me and prizes

I thought in honour of yet another year of my life I would share with you some of things that you never knew about me but always wondered about... or not.
  • I grew up on the west coast of Canada on Vancouver Island and I miss living near the ocean.
  • When I was a kid I used to mix up kool-aid powder with the sugar and hide it in my room so I could eat it and then I would have to explain why my fingers where dyed a variety of colours.
  • I have 2 spinning wheels and I love to spin but I have a hard time finding time.
  • I live in house that was built in 1830's and I love every (sometimes musty) inch of it.
  • I love to read fiction of all types but loathe most fantasy books.
  • I have 3 dogs and a cat and I brought our beagle back to Canada with me from Taiwan.
  • I love all of the Anne of Green Gables books, movies and all things Anne and yet PEI is one of the two Canadian provinces that I have never visited, the other is Newfoundland.
  • I don't eaten gluten but sometimes I long for a toasted onion bagel with melted cheddar cheese.
  • When I was a girl my Mom used to make me dolls and doll clothes, I still have many of them.
  • I have enough of yarn stash to knit at least 100 projects including a number of sweaters that I have started and not finished or just bought the yarn for and never started them.
  • I like to play cards and board games.
  • I love to drink cider of all types but pear is my favourite.
  • I hate cleaning and our house often looks like a tornado has gone through it. I am ok with that most of the time.
  • I miss being able to pick blackberries like I did when I was kid, blackberries grow wild all over the west coast and there are none here in the great white north.
  • I do not watch a lot of TV but I love Grey Anatomy, Desperate Housewives and Criminal Minds.
  • Enid Blyton is one of my favourite children's authors, I buy up her books every time I find them.
  • I know all the words to all the songs in original Annie movie and I saw the Broadway version twice, once as a child and once on Broadway when I was 20 or so.
  • I was obsessed with Annie as a child and had a number of outfits from the movie as well as a life size doll that I my Mom made and that I still have.
  • When I lived in Asia I fell in love with Laos and Vietnam, I would love to go back someday.
  • I have been blogging for 6 years ( not always here) and I have met some of my dearest friends through this virtual journal of mine.
  • I have 2 nieces and 3 nephews and they are growing up far to fast.
  • I was a nanny for a long time and have looked after a countless number of kids. I have kept in touch with some of the families and others I still wonder about.
  • When I worked in Taipei I rode a bicycle to and from work everyday and I used to put my beagle in the basket of bike, I usually felt pretty safe but I did almost get hit by a number of taxi's.
  • I love having a latte every morning.
  • My Ukrainian grandmother taught me to make perogies and cabbage rolls as a child, I am eternally grateful. She died when I was university and I miss her everyday.
  • My other grandmother died the following year and I wish that she was here to knit with me, I miss her too.
  • I am pretty handy around the house and I am the one who fixes stuff when it breaks, there is a lot of fixing of things going on before our home visit for our homestudy.
  • I am a teacher but I do not think that I will ever go back to teaching in a regular classroom, there are to many things wrong with the system and I have changed a lot in the last 2 years since I stopeed teaching.
  • I love to grow my own food, it makes me happy to eat food that came from our yard even though it is a lot of work.
  • I dream of visiting Europe one day but I want to wait until I can see it in style.
  • I get motion sick easily and sometimes even midway rides make me ill.
  • I got my ears pierced as a child and even though I rarely wear earrings the holes have never grown over.
  • I love camping and hiking and I can not wait until the boys are big enough to do something other than day trips and car camping
and that is 33 random things and if you are still reading that brings me to prizes. I numbered each comment in the order they came in, I entered the numbers into the random number generator and I got # 18 which was Corey and then I decided I really like you all and so I hit generate again  got # 27 which was Maggie. Corey I know how to reach you so watch for an email from Amazon and Maggie send me an email ( stellarparenting at hotmail dot com ) with your address and I will mail you some treats from my drawer of goodies. I really enjoy reading your blog. It is interesting and informative. My family fostered many years ago and I think some of the children that went through our home had similar issues to those of your children. I think you are an amazing mom!

Thanks so much!

Have a wonderful week :-)
