Monday Moments

  • The boys found a feather in the yard and they decided that they need to do some research to figure out what kind of bird it was from. It was really cute to watch them, they developed a hypothesis all on their own and drew pictures. Then I found some more bird books for them and they figured out that they were right about their thoughts and it was so cute to see them that excited about a feather.
  • Summer is now in full swing and we are headed to the cottage tomorrow.
  • I have frozen, dried, and made jam with 35 liters of strawberries that we picked last week. Last year we picked way more but the season is over and I just ran out of time.
  • Someone asked about the garden, the 30 by 30 foot garden is finally doing really well but there is a lot of weeding. In past years we put hay between the rows and this year we decided not to, I am regretting that choice now. After we get back from the cottage I will try to take some pictures as things are getting big out there and we are already eating lettuce and zucchini. The beans and Peas are blooming and there are some peppers flowering as well. .
  • We have a meeting with our new social worker today to begin our homestudy update. I hope that things go well and that she is open and understanding. There is nothing worse than working with someone who does not get it. It drives me crazy that there are kids waiting to be adopted and that we are stuck in the paperwork nightmare again.
  • Calvin went through a  "rough patch" on Thursday/Friday and I am not at all surprised given all that has gone on in the last few weeks but I love that it was 2 challenging days and that we got through them without anyone getting hurt and no yelling. He was trying really hard to engage us in a battle and when he did not get anywhere he finally just stopped. I told him that I was proud of him on Friday and he just sort of stared at me, then I told him that before when he was angry he could not talk it through and move on and now he could and I was proud of him. He did not know what to say about that.
  • Fudge continues to be Fudge, he is struggling but coming along at the same time. He is counting the days till he goes back to school already because he is excited about moving up to the new school for grade 4. I told him we should just enjoy the summer because it is not very long and he said but I love school.
  • We saw Toy Story Three last week, it was good. We do not go to the movies very often but it was a fun beginning of summer treat.
  • I need to go finish the jam that is on the stove, pack up the kids and take them to a friends house and drive into the city.
  • I will not be around again till Friday unless of course I manage to get some posts finished and set them to post automatically, it is not likely though as I have a Hopeful Parents post to write for Thursday too.

Good luck with your homestudy! I was so nervous for ours and it turned out to be such a fluff thing. Hope it goes well!

ooo, i'm jealous of your garden! my pine trees make my soil too sandy/loamy and too uneven with the roots to garden without hauling in large volumes of top soil and containing it all in a leveled box that has proper irrigation. I'm only growing tomatoes and sunflowers in pots. I tried peppers once with no luck.

and wow. strawberries here start in April and finish in mid May! Love making the jam though.

now peaches... they're in full swing and OMG I love peaches

*green with envy*

A busy week for you. 35 liters???? That is crazy huge. Huge you can do - I'm still thinking about your massive pieorgie adventure during the holidays! Good luck with the endless reams of paperwork for growing your family...
