Did you know that when you call the furnace guy to come look at your furnace because it is blowing black smoke and then the very nice furnace guy arrives and tells you that it is not going to be good it usually means that things are going turn out badly. Then he tells you that they have to red tag it and turn it off as it is unsafe and then they make you sign that you know that it is off and that you will not turn it back on until it is fixed. I am not sure what would happen if I didi but I can only imagine that it would be a really bad thing. Did you know that when that happens they don't charge you for the service call.
PS I also had the student loan people call and yell at me today, they want money too...

I did actually know most of that. I didn't, however, know that it was a customary practice not to charge for service calls when they red tag your appliances. So that's why we never got a bill from the guy who red-tagged our gas fireplace in our last house!
So sorry this one involves your furnace. :-( That one's not really a discretionary fix.
Not a good day. I hope tomorrow is better. I also hope you get a reasonable price on the furnace.
Yikes. This is not the kind of financial news you need going into heating season. Sorry. On the other hand, cooking nine million pierogies for the holidays will heat up the house a little....
Oh man.
Makes me glad I live in TX where we won't be using our furnace for a few more months. I do know how you feel though. We haven't had air conditioning in our car for 3 years. This economy stinks. I don't answer the house phone anymore because it's always debt collectors.
Hugs and prayers,
Mary in TX
